1919 Hudson clutch sticking

My first post with this group.

We have a 1919 Hudson Super Six with clutch sticking problems. We

have it out of the car (again) and the guides for the cork faced

plates are heavily indented where they engage each of the plates.

This would restrict plate separation when the clutch is depressed.

These guides are removable and are small pieces of spring steel. We

can grind out the indentations but they will then be very thin on the

guide face. Does anyone in the group knows of a supplier for new

guides? They look like widely space hair pins.

Perhaps the small springs between each clutch plate should be replaced

with stronger springs to improve plate separation.

Also this type of clutch seems have a simple brake built in that slows

the gear cluster rotation when engaging the gears from a start. I am

wondering whether this may be worn limiting the clutch plate

separation travel. That is a bit of a long shot but I would welcome

comments.

We have experimented with the different types of oil but that has not

made a difference to the sticking problem.

Any comments would be appreciated.
