1925 Super Six oil and general questions

Hello,

This is my new adventure in the world of Super Six Hudsons so I will be needing some help. I have a Hudson Indy car ( pictures on the Hudson racecar page of Yahoo) and several other vintage cars including Alfa, Bristol and Knight. I am quite familiar with pre war cars but this has some differences / challenges.

Car has not run for some 5 years and is what I may call a "deluxe barn find". Never been restored as far as I can tell and reasonably good. Needs tires badly.

Now the glass/ plastic sight gauge is broken and not registering. I put a steel rod down the filler hole and it came up dry.

So do I have to drop the pan to fill the troughs or is there a short cut? Will the pump not fill them?

I could crank it over with 12V no plugs and that should give the pump some action. ( after putting a chain on)

I have a long piece of wire with a cleaning plug on one end. Kind of tool you use to clean old guns.

In the parts book it would seem related to the oil system but I can't place it. Help....were does it go and waht does it do?

The timing chain is off and rusty so whilst I could clean it and use it, is there a source for a new one?

I will be taking the cover off to make sure there is a gear inside to drive the cam, but I am hoping there is.

Will have to figure out why the chain was removed. Curiously he put the cover back with one bolt no gasket and mounted the pulley and hand crank dog. Why go to the bother of putting suff back? When I hand crank it, the rotor does not turn = no chain?

No chance of contacting the previous owner as it was a complex estate sale.

Clutch fluid. Years ago I had a 29 Essex so if it is the same, I drain the flywheel and refill 50 /50 oil-kerosene.Or perhaps Hudsonite as used in the Step down series?

Occasionally I see this model (2 door coach with small trunk) with a plated rad shell but most are painted. What is correct?

Well if you guys can straighten me out on these items, I can start tinkering.

Regards,

Dorien
