John, As Geoff says, that is a low
compression head. The attached photo is of a high compression head from
a 1920 car in Argentina. You can see there is a considerable difference
in combustion chamber shape..In my view, we most certainly should be using a
high compression head ( or even higher?) if we are going to go to all that
work to develop and reproduce something. In the meantime, I thank you
for your efforts and count me in for an aluminum head if you get this off the
ground.

Have attached some photo's of an old
26 head that was cracked which I cut in half to check the material
thicknessbetween the combustion chamber and waterjacket.
(see the drilled holes).
