1917 Hudson Engine
Well I am back from Afghanistan. I arrived back in Iowa on the 25th of July. I will be on leave until the end of July at which time I return to work at Well Fargo.
This of course has given me plenty of time to work on disassembling my 17 Hudson. Upfront here are the major parts that I have discovered are missing: pump impeller, cam shaft timing gear (big one), both windshield frames. Does anybody have the front part of a 17 frame? Someone really hacked the cross member under the radiator up. It might even be a complete replacement with a really poorly (and I mean really) made replacement.
I did locate an engine block but that is still in process. I know it has one dinged up cylinder, but it is better than having none. I also found some small cracks in the head on the side and on the surface. When I receive the block I will have both magnafluxed and then hopefully have the head cracks welded. There is a place not too far away in Nevada, Iowa that specializes in welding cast iron blocks and heads.
I will also need to locate the covers for the the starter generator, remanufacture the band that goes around the radiator along with some other small parts.
I will also be coating the wheels with CPES per recommendation by Perry Spring. It is an epoxy that is used for boats and seals out moisture. Any recommendations for type of paint? I will hopefully be posting pictures later. I was amazed to see the difference between my 29 and this engine. The waterpump and timing gears (or lack of one in my case) was very interesting.
All for now.
