OIL LEAK NEWS
Karl, Geoff, Martyn,
I'm delighted to say that Karl's suggestion to remove one of the tappet covers has worked! I've just done about 40 miles, driving fast, and there is no perceptible sign of oil loss on the dipstick, which is great news as far as I'm concerned. Thank you so much for the idea. There must be considerable pressure in the crankcase. What would you suggest as a better breather? I had thought of removing the plate with the 3 holes at the bottom of the current breather and enlarging the hole at the top, or brazing a 1.5'' pipe onto the forward tappet cover, but there is probably a better way. Interestingly, there seems to be more power now.
This will now spur me on to tackle stripping the steering box to get rid of the play (the adjustments just seem to make it stiff) renew king pins, and sort jumping out of 2nd gear (any hope of doing this without removing the gearbox?)
Were shock absorbers (dampers) ever fitted to these cars and if so it would be great to know what type.
Thank you for help, Robert
