Simple Tool Installs Water Manifold

Attachments :
I worked on the 29 this weekend, using the excuse of the local Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival to do stuff that was years overdue. One project was installing a new water manifold Dave Kostansic made for me 15 years ago. It had warped slightly as it was welded and the two flanges were too close to each other to fit over the studs on the cylinder head.

I thought about ovaling the holes with the Dremel but just couldn't bring myself to do that. What was needed was a spreader tool of some sort. I thought about things I had seen for other purposes and screw jack popped into mind. Natch, I had nothing like that around.

A trip to the local hardware store tuned up a turnbuckle that might well have worked. One of the fellows who worked there suggested this simple lashup made with a coupler and two 3/8 bolts. This was cheap, easily adjustable and worked "like snot on a door knob."

Thanks to this simple idea from a fellow at the store, the manifold is installed and doing its job. Solutions like this give me a special sort of warm glow.
