I posted a notice about some strange Fulton sunvisors on ebay yesterday.

I just took a look at the listing to see if any familiar Hudson buyers had bid on them (not that I was expecting to see any Hudon buyers, but I was just curious). Anyway, I'm quite disappointed to see that buyer IDs will no longer be available on the bid history page. Apparently the bid history page will only distinguish bidders from one another by labeling them Bidder #1, Bidder #2, etc. I'll miss being able to follow familiar biider's names. I'll especially miss following the little bit of drama as heavy hitters (you know there names) scramble in the last seconds to grab some particularly rare item. It's (as you might well imagine) a security issue, so it's probably for the best.

  • I like the "bidder 1" ID policy. There is far less spam from "second chance" items that never were, or people trying to use your name, etc. It's about damn time, IMO.

After thinking about it, I'm sure that you're right. I've never gotten one of those suspect "second chance" offers, but it sure likelt that dishonest jerks would easily use them as an opportunity to screw people.
  • I think this will lead to more shill bidding by sellers. It is already rampant but this will hide the bidder id which will make it harder to track down the shills.

    Have a good day

  • Time to bring the parts home to the HET family? But then again, we will have to be willing to pay the askin" price or the auction price that is... LOL.

eBay needs an overhaul in many areas... especially when a non bidder can provide an off line email offer for something offered on eBay.

I am dead against a seller having private feedback, I feel if they are not up front with their feedback, something is fishy as I found out with one of my dealings with such a seller. The item was not as described, I put in a negative feedback, but because he has a private feedback it does not allow other buyers to see what this seller is like ,all it show is that I gave a negative feedback ,he then put a negative feedback on my site for everyone to see, should be equal for both parties.

I know buyer beware, but, you should be able to check on their previous dealings.
  • Ebay was a good thing once upon a time. Now they do whatever they can to avoid being responsible for anything. All those cases of unhappy buyers or rip-offs, etc., ebay still ends up making money. Head of the security, they respond to any of those complaints which is what we all know is the infamous " were working on that" or it's being looked into" type of reply with all kinds of links to ebay's terms and clause's.

Whats so sad is that this company could provide good security with easy fix's but it would mean less profit and they've just gotton too greedy which is what kills company's every time. Customer service still counts to the user.

Feedback was one of the best perks ebay had which they slowly deluted. When a person can look back at anothers history in that market they can pretty well decide if they want to deal with them or not. It doesnt take a brain surgeon to figure out if the seller or buyer is a risk or not if your provided with all of their past transactions. It speaks for itself and this is the best security ebay had. Not to mention it was free since the users did their own security checks with this tool.

I hate to see it but ebay is killing itself.
  • Recently, I too noticed the bidder 1,2 & 3 thing on ebay but it seems that they have gone back to identifying the bidders.
