2013 TRANSCONTINENTAL LINCOLN HIGHWAY TOUR
Received this by e-mail today. Some of you may have received from me by e-mail. Thought others with early Hudsons might be interested.
ADVANCE NOTICE OF THE 2013 TRANSCONTINENTAL LINCOLN HIGHWAY TOUR
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Lincoln Highway, the LINCOLN HIGHWAY ASSOCIATION is planning tours from both coasts along the early alignments of the Lincoln Highway. Many miles of the old
roadway have not been swallowed up by the Interstates and still survive, running on "two lanes" in proximity to U.S. Routes 1, 30, 40, and 50. Thus the trip will provide a re-enactment of a trip across the U.S. in the '40's and 50's. The tentative itineraries are as follows:
Eastern Tour
Sat. June 22 Times Square, NYC to Malvern, PA.
Sun. June 23 Malvern, PA to Gettysburg, PA
Mon. Gettysburg, PA to Greensburg, PA
Tues. Greensburg, PA to Mansfield, OH
Wed. Mansfield, OH to South Bend, IN
Thur. South Bend, IN to Dixon, IL
Fri. Dixon, IL to Ames IA
Sat. Ames, IA to Grand Island, NE
Western Tour
Sun. June 23 Lincoln Park, San Francisco to Sacramento, CA
Mon. Sacramento, CA to Fallon, NV
Tues. Fallon, NV to Ely NV
Wed. Ely, NV to Tooele, UT
Thur. Tooele, UT to Rock Springs, WY
Fri. Rock Springs, WY to Cheyenne, WY
Sat. Cheyenne, WY to Lexington, NE
Sun, Jun 30, Mon. July 1 to Thu. July 4th
Both tours will merge for a short trip to Kearny, NE and the Great Arch Festival, Centennial Celebration Car Show and Lincoln Highway Association Conference to which participants are welcome to attend as well as local 4th of July Celebrations.
If there is significant interest the tours will continue to the East and West Coasts on July 5th.
At the Centennial Celebration there will be a re-creation of a "tourist camp". Participants with pre '32 cars are invited to set up camp.
It is also planned to allow participants to join and drop out of the tour at any point with prior notification and registration.
We would like feedback concerning whether some or your members(readers) would be interested in participating and whether you would like us to inform other people within your organization with this memo
or additional information as it becomes available.
