Re: 29 carb

Hope Geoff can help us out here.  Spent some
time with my son Paul today on the 29 which was mine years ago.  He is
having a pretty frustrating time with the Marvel carb.

As far as I can tell everything is correct but the
engine dies if the air screw is backed out to be flush with the  keeper as
is supposed to be correct.  Runs fairly well if the screw is turned in
several turns.  That is, revs up smoothly.  Any less spring tension
and it stumbles and pops back through the carb.  Flapper is free and seats
well against the body.  Spring measures 1-5/8 free length as I think it is
supposed to do.  Paul says he has verified all jets are clear.  Any
ideas?  This carb was totally trouble free for the many years I drove the
car.  Always started on the 3rd compression even down to 0 Celcius.
Now it is miserable to start from cold.
