Super Six Clutch Problem
Dear fellow owners,
The clutch on my Super Six is probably 1923 and has several springs actuating the multiple pressure plates. Having sent parts of the clutch to USA for re-corking, and having reassembled it and refitted it, I find it works perfectly for most of the time but occasionally it binds to such an extent that gear changing is well nigh impossible, and when coming to a halt, it is impossible to get out of gear into neutral. If the car is left to cool down, then the clutch somehow frees itself and allows neutral to be selected.
A. When I reassembled the clutch, on the advice of the corker, I left out the small peripheral coil springs and the small springs with the ears.
Could this be causing the plates to jam up?
B. Is it possible that the four main posts forming part of the clutch outer housing and which slot into the flywheel are too scored with wear grooves? I did try to remove these scars but could not think of a way to machine them properly.
C. If B. above is the problem, any suggestion as to how to remove the wear grooves would be most helpful.
