37 mechanical heat riser plate needed

What some people have done is remove the entire heat riser assembly and fabricate a metal plate to cover the opening in the exhaust manifold. Which type of heat riser does your car have? The less expensive models (like my '39 112) came with a manual heat riser. The exhaust manifold had a W (Winter) and an S (Summer) cast into the top of it. The heat riser could be manually turned (haha!) anywhere from fully open (summer) to fully closed (winter). The more expensive cars had the spring / counterspring heat riser and the heat from the exhaust would open the heat riser as the engine warmed up.

I have the more expensive type with the spring / counterspring heat riser and the heat from the exhaust would open the heat riser as the engine warmed up.
I cleaned the pivot points, was sticking, and the springs seem to have good tension (guess I just got lucky there) however the cover plate is junk.
I could fabricate a new plate but I was concerned with the expansion differences between the new STEEL fabricated cover plate and the CAST IRON exhaust manifold. A buddy of mine knows where to get CAST IRON we could machine but I was hoping that someone has already been down this road and machined several plates using cast iron.
