Repairing rust holes in oil pan

Evening all,
Been fighting my 29 oil pan attempting to repair 10+ 1/8" to pin through rust holes. I've been using bronze rods and oxy/acc. I'm experiencing a cracking of the pan metal including the bronze material through the area I heat an atea surronding the hole '/to red sufficient to braze. I've stopped and thought I'd check with you guys. I've got the Muggy Weld rods if that would be better since they are 350 degree melting.Jack

This is also part of the procedure for an oil change to displace the dirty oil in the troughs. The model O manual says to use 1 quart in the front valve chamber and 1 quart in the back , for a new engine when it flows out of the pan plug hole after and only after you have added 2 quarts you know the troughs are sound (beside the fact that you know they are).

In Model H,J,M manual it says to flush and turn the engine with no ignition with kerosene through the valve troughs. I have resisted this since removing a pan, cleaning extensively and changing regularly proves the oil never really gets many contaminants in it under the under utilized conditions. My longest distance between changes has been around 600 miles, it comes out pretty clean every time.

I know I have to fill the troughs to be sure there's oil at startup but I question the method of filling. Attempting to attach a long pan, 2 gaskets and a filled trough to the crankcase looks to be a mess waiting to happen. So can the troughs be filled by removing the oil fill top and tube then use a long funnel or is there another way to get to the troughs?
