Water Pump Shaft Repair
Hi All, I'm new to the group and have recently been given the honored title of caretaker to my Dad's '27 Biddle and Smart Brougham. The car is mostly original and is mostly complete except for a few items worn from ware, and a leaking water pump thats always plagued the car. I'm running down a PM check list that my Dad used in '68 when he first bought the car, and plan check the timing chain. From the searching I've done it looks like now may be a good time to pull the water pump and drive gear out to piece in the stainless repair shaft. It appears that the assembly has to be pulled towards the firewall out of the timing gear eccentric section of the block.
My question is, is there a write up available for this repair, where can I find it, and can the repair section be added without pulling the gear off the timing chain? One thread it appeared that the shaft was cut between the gland and eccentric while it was in the car. If I didn't miss understand it, was this done to simplify removal of both halves, or was the timing gear half left in and machined in place for the "grub" screw?
Thanks all and I look forward to meeting some of you at the National this month!
