1929 diff

I have stripped a diff and found it is a 1929 diff with 2 large brake shoes and a 53/12 ratio. I was told that 1929 diff was unique to 1929 and that it had finer gear teeth than the earlier C& Ps . Any reason or advantage why Hudson did this? Thanks
