Car Turntable

Although not a question specific to Hudson, has anyone ever thought of or built a car turntable?

I am building a garage and want to construct a turntable at the front, we are not blessed with acres of space in this country as our friends in the US or Australia are!

Although you can buy them, the challenge of making my own is appealing, thoughts at the moment are to get an axle off a heavy truck/tractor, dig a hole and concrete it in, using the heavy gauge wheel as the plane from which everything else can be welded to. Mount some support wheels to the floor around the periphery to catch the weight and away we go.

Any thoughts anyone?
