29 Transmission Front Bearing Slop

Afternoon all, while doing the clutch, I noticed about a 1/8"+ diagonal play in the transmission front shaft measured at the tip (pilot bearing end). Horiz and vert play was alot less.

I'm wondering if this is typical and the pilot bearing is used to keep the shaft true.
