Speedometer Drive Gear & Pinion
I am trying to determine if a Stewart Warner drive gear P-62162 and pinion 14108 were for a 1928 Essex Roadster. The normal gear & pinion are P.17512 & P.17513 as in the parts book for E28 & other years (26, 27..).
When replacing the rear felt seal on the gearbox and returning the original rear bearing cap to the gearbox, I found the pinion would not go in so I had to use the pinion that was in the old gearbox ( gearbox case swap as no drain plug due to repair before I got the car).
Does anyone have chart / info for Stewart Warner speedometer gears for the late 1920's as I have searched the web & Alex Burr's docs without success?
These non standard gears may make my speedo more accurate as I have a 5.1 diff instead of the 5.4 which seems to have been the practice for Roadsters. The 1927 Essex parts manual has different Hudson numbers for the Roadster for these parts (however the Stewart Warner numbers are not listed) which supports this.
