Gearbox Oil Leak - Rear Seal 1928 Essex
I have replaced the rear felt oil seal and adjusted play to about 0.010" and still enough oil gets on the wrapped exhaust to cause smoke in the cab at times. Worse on the way home from a club event than going there.
All internal parts of this gearbox came from another as the previous casing had no drain plug. It did not leak like now.
Could it be that it is sealed up so well with grease on selector shafts etc, rubber to stop vibration on the gear level mounting that as it warms up it pushes oil out? How are they vented?
The oil left under the car is not the nice blue green of the new 140 W oil so it must be still mixing with the Nulon oil additive add after the rebuild. Could this cause the oil to behave differently and leak?
Any ideal?
