1929 oil pump

    By assembling the oilpump of my 1929 Hudson I have come across a couple of brass spacers (attached Photo) I am am a little puzzled about the shape, as it is covering the oultlet of the pump, as far as I understand. Isn't the dark colored area where the oil flows from the pump into the oil pan?
