Kick Plates and Running Board Step Plate

Evening all,

Planning the mount of these and wanted to get some advice. I was looking at Geoff's 29 and his kick plates but didn't see any step plates. I've got the last set of KGap running board rubber and was thinking about installing both 4 steps and 4 kick plates to protect. Is this overboard or was this done back in the day?
