Main Bearings on My 29
Evening Karl & Geoff,
Using Karl's dial gauge test setup, touching the crank just rear of the front main, lifting gently with a scissor jack at #1 counter weight. This one had < 0.0005. Same setup but on the rear crank measuring just forward of the main, lifting at #6 counter.the rear This one was 0.0014. I did not drop those mains as there was no noticeable out of spec slop. .
The 2 center mains, however, were badly out with the center front over 0.010 and the rear center a tad less. Reshimmed the centers to 0.0015. Engine tightened up a bit more based on hand rotation at the fan.
Is it typical for the center mains to get most of the wear like this?
Thanks
Jack
