While you're there on your 29 and like that have their output flange to muffler front unsupported, please save your manifold and add a rubber type exhaust support on that forward muffler section. The original design left the weight of the pipe and muffler to be supported by the exhaust manifold. This just caused the manifold end to sheer off.

I spent several hours and several days with some heat and penetrating oil tapping on the nut with a brass hammer and was able to successfully get the flange nut off 

I have had new pipes bent and purchased some fireplace door rope to try in the flange and hope to reassemble it in the next couple of days

Ive a 1925 Seven seat sedan. Did you manage to unscrew the flange nut? I didnt want to run the risk of breaking mine so I wrapped it with titanium tape secured with stainless steel cable ties and it seems to have done the job of sealing any leaks and it also insulates.

I started the wrap on the manifold just above the flange and carried it down the pipe about 12 inches.
