pinion seal

The original seals are felt washer. I don't know of any direct modern replacement. I have successfully re-used the originals by shrinking them down. You have to knock the retainer out, remove the felt washer, carefully cut a length of gasket paper and insert around the inside of the retainer, and re-insert the felt washer the periphery. So the washer is effectively shrunken in size and good for another 90 years. Oh, and you must ensure that there is absolutely no play in the pinion bearings. they are adjustable, but must have no pre-load, just all play taken up.0
