'52 Twin H running rough when put in gear

Good evening to all. My Hornet is idling and revving up well, however, once I place it in gear ( automatic) I lose the smooth idle and it wants to quit. Any advice where to begin?

Check to see if it has any vacume leaks.

What RPM is the idle set at and have they been synchronized?  The RPM will drop a couple hundred when it is put into gear.  Is it possible the idle is just a bit low?
