Many of them have been done in various years. I'm putting a big block ford in a 54 at the moment, and I've put a Chevy 350 in a 36 Hudson. A friend of mine has a 472 Cadillac in a Pacemaker.

I put a 55 Olds into my 52 Hornet coupe back in 1957.  Added a 37 LaSalle transmission about 6 months later.
