dashboard lightbulb sockets ?

Here's a socket on Ebay that snaps into a 5/8" hole (in your instrument housing) and holds either a 51, 55, 53 or 57 incandescent bulb. (My '37 uses a 51 for the idiot lights and 55 for general instrument illumination -- both 6 volt.) It appears to have a single wire (the socket is grounded through the clips, to the metal instrument housing). They give you a free bulb with the socket, but you must specify which one when ordering.

Actually, there are some even cheaper versions around, though they don't come with the bulb:<a href="https://jcaparts.com/products/ba9s-bayonet-5-8-single-contact-snap-in-lightbulb-socket-pigtail" title="Link: https://jcaparts.com/products/ba9s-bayonet-5-8-single-contact-snap-in-lightbulb-socket-pigtail">https://jcaparts.com/products/ba9s-bayonet-5-8-single-contact-snap-in-lightbulb-socket-pigtail</a><br>

hi lance,
i am needing 4 sockets ...
2 for charging and oil pressure idiot lights
2 for dashboard illuminations
apparently all the same socket with different bulbs
mark0 -
Yes they are.0

on my 36 T the charging and oil pressure idiot light sockets are different from dash light sockets. They have a hot and ground wire and the bulb socket is insulated from the mounting tangs. This is because the bulb needs to be controled by the grounding of the oil pressure switch and the voltage regulator. I found both on ebay.0

so noted ... but my '40 is now 12 volt -ground and should be ok with single contact sockets (?) ... i am using the original idiot lights in the glovebox door as a redundant visual safety measure ... aftermarket guages will actually monitor the charging and oil pressure ... the engine temperature will be monitored by the original guage in the dash, in addition to another modern guage in a lower cluster ...0
