Well, I'm not sure how it'll work but if it doesn't, that set up will make a great flowerpot !  :D

Seriously, installing headlight lenses is a tricky business.
I have a set of lens manufacturers instructions for installing and removing them that I've private messaged to several people.
These instructions aren't amongst the technical documents that the Club has on the internet.
Perhaps the Forum moderators could please tell me who to send them to include them in these documents ?

...and he does THIS every time he changes a headlight bulb????

I think it's much easier to do it on the car, providing you provide plenty of pillows and blankets on the bumper and fender beneath the headlight.  To catch the lens when it (inevitably) slips from your grasp.

I believe the way to re-lamp the 1935's is similar to the method used for 1934 through 1937 models: loosen the screw at the bottom of the headlight shell until you can feel the lens move when you press in on the bottom of it.  Then press downward and inward on the lower part of the lens, until the upper part of the lens clears the top of the opening.  (The lens width is actually less than the opening width, so the lens sides should clear the opening during removal).

Then, I use a thin piece of plastic -- like an old credit card -- and insert it into the gap that has opened up at the top of the lens.  I use the plastic (don't use metal) to gently pry the lens out of its shell, until I can get my fingers around the top part of the lens to continue pulling it outward.  All the time I am pressing in and down on the lower part of the lens with my other hand.  Gradually the upper part of the lens will slide out of the shell.  Don't force it, if you get resistance.

Actually, just after releasing the bottom screw so the lens "floats" in the opening) I carefully remove the entire chrome rim, working from the bottom and sliding it away from the edge of the shell until, bit by bit, I have worked completely around the opening and the rim comes off.  This gives much more clearance for the lens to come out.  But you may be able to get it out while leaving the rim in place.  (After replacing the lamp and lens but before tightening the screw, you can slip the trim onto the edge of the shell opening, starting at the bottom and working all the way around, back to the bottom.)

Just don't forget those pillows and blankets.

Obviously easier for a Mr Magoo if one can stand very close without bending over a fat mudguard. Easier to see what is happening and what you are doing to remove/install the glass. As always its up to the individual to decide the best method. One doesnt replace globes very often and when doing it would pay to replace both park and head light at the same time.

Looking at the tool on eBay, it would be quite easy (even for me!) to make something like that.

This is a good technical post, but sadly it won't get a lot of attention because it's posted under the "Instruction and Tips" on how to use the Forum.  Not on how to fix your Hudson!  My advice would be to post this over at the "Hudson" category of the Forum. Sorry I missed that point when I added my reply to the discussion in 2020!
