Has anyone had one of those original 6 x 9 inch stepdown radio speakers re-coned looking for a source so I can keep the original.

Have you tried doing a search on-line? Seems to be quite a few options:

Thanks all -- John's Vintage Radio in NJ did a great job on my table radio a few years ago, but his website is now inactive. Hopefully he'll respond to an email. I've seen the other ads on the web, but didn't want to trust my original frame to a unvouched for source.0

Afraid John from Lake Hiawatha says he has retired and no longer re-cones speakers. He has no successor. I am going to try Steve.

So Steve Engel reports that his re-coning subcontractor is no longer available and I'd do better to purchase a new speaker on eBay. There are a great variety of 4 OHM 6x9 inch speakers out there for less thhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/Type-Speaker-6-x-9-Paper-Cone-4-ohm-Ford-60-12135-1/184695235441?hash=item2b00b1a371:g:iMgAAOSwGAhgQbir#vi-ilCompan $30. Can anyone recommend a model? I'm looking at this Ford repro unit.0
