Radial inner tubes - are they safer?

I have a '54 Hornet I am restoring. I already bought radial wide Whitewalls for it. I plan to take this car on the highway a good bit. I have heard that the original rims not being made for tubeless tires can be a problem. Should I put radial tubes in them to be safer?

I have used my original '50 C8 wheels (powder coated) with radials and no inner tubes since 2005 and never a leak or problem period.0

There was problem with 54 rims splitting at the bead. Happened to me.
Kept losing air but no leak found in tire.
I'd be interested to hear of others experiencing this.0
