A Mystery ?

in "How To" - Skills, mechanical and other wise
 After removing the rusted out bolt's and nut's on the inner fender of my 54 to get to the valve cover's i removed the blasted thing and tipped it up and lo and behold if about a pint of engine oil didn't come out of the vacuum cannister when i tipped it up, is this some kind of new filter system? All kidding aside, any idea's? Thank You!
