51 Hornet Hard Brake Pedal

Looking for some suggestions. Brake pedal on my Hornet has gets high with little to no free play and very hard after driving for awhile, also seems to have less braking power. Have had car for 3 years with no brake issues before. I am not very experienced with manual brakes, the only cause I can come up with is brake hose collapsing acting like a check valve and trapping fluid, hoses look good, but are of unknown age.

Check the adjustment of free play in rod to the Master cylinder piston.
If to little clearance it blocks the return hole.
Might be sludge in MC or collapsing hose.0 -
I would be suspect of any rubber brake line that I didn't personally replace. Many times, they look great on the outside, but they deteriorate from the inside out. They swell up internally, which closes up the hole. You can create enough pressure with your foot to apply the brake, but the springs inside the drums can't push the fluid back to the master cylinder when you let up.0
