If you must go with other than Hudson Power!
A few months ago I highlighted an alternate non SBC and non LS engine option, that is still and inline if you feel the need to go with more modern power over a Hudson I6 or I8. Here is a perfect example of GM 4200 OHC I6 in a beautiful street rod

And if you think you can't go fast with inline power these days well:

Here is the latest on these guys working with junkyard inline 6 power, w/ 175K miles on it! For anyone that thinks you cannot make some serious hp with an inline, these guys have just proven you wrong! Again, great alternate for those that want to use something other than cool original Hudson power!
I subscribed to their youtube channel and they just released a new video on their work. It is impressive that they could achieve over 800 Whp (not flywheel) from a junkyard engine. I tend to be a traditionalist and a strong Hudson flathead 6/8 supporter, but also one that thinks of working outside the norm, and this is really outside of the norm of - LS - SBC - Belly button motor approach!

Holy cow. Did you see the chicanery that went into simply trying to keep it on the dyno??? That's amazing for an engine with 175k on the clock.0

The long block is stock as pulled from the junkyard! I am impressed it held together that long. Try putting 40 lbs boost into a SBC!0

It would pop like a balloon..0

There is a fellow that runs in the 9s, slant 6 . also a Dodge omni so far has run in the 9s, also with a 2.2 at 143 mph. Blower makes a big diff.

This has been done in a stepdown Hudson. I was told it was not easy. The car was T-boned shortly after becoming roadworthy.0

Here is a link to a summary of a whole series of videos on 4200 turbo builds. Also, Hot Rod Garage did an episode, with a promised future on a build as well, season 7 if you have Motortrend TV, or stream it.

Forgot to add this one in my last post:

Well they just keep getting better with this engine. Better than an LS, yep an I6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQImX9ajJF4If I were going to build a Hudson rod this is definitely the route I would go.0

What I really like about this guy is he's a modern incarnation of the old school hot rodder. He's using stock parts where he can and he's not building a 10k crate engine from scratch like the glam-rod TV shows do.
He's right. There is probably some money in making accessories for that Atlas engine. Inlines are 'sexy' now.0 -
I think this is about the best engine in the junkyard these days. I am thinking about going out and finding a couple to stick away for a future project.0

I have a 2006 Buick Rainier and it has a 4200. 225K miles. Pulled a 6K lbs trailer/truck back from Montana last Jan to Delaware - never missed a beat. This thing is a beast.0

FiTech or someone else also needs to make a standalone ECM for these things. FiTech just rolled out a standalone ECM for old TPI small blocks... Really? That's where you put your development $$ this year? I can't recall the last time I saw a TPI LT1 go in a build. That's 90's era build material, doesn't seem like a huge market to me.0

Barra 6 from an aussie falcon would be an interesting swap0
-
Standalone ECM conversion is already available! So are aftermarket cams and injectors.

Now that's interesting. I hadn't seen that. That could sell well. So would an NA version, I think.0
