Can anyone tell me how to take apart and rebuild my SK 25 wiper motor in my 39 six?
Thanks

Fiken wiper service is the best if you need help!

They are pretty straightforward. It is pretty common to find the pot metal is coming apart, if so, it is trash. The next challenger is softening the leather seal on the paddle.

Clean it up and see how the housing looks.

    good luck

If you send it to Ficken for rebuilding, and they find that the pot metal is warped, they will probably let you know before starting to rebuild.  At least that is what the told me , when mine was beyond rebuilding.

Before you go to the trouble of rebuilding, have you tried shooting some neat's foot oil (among other liquids) into it and letting the leather seal soak in it for a few days?  That might be all it needed, to get running again.  Of course, remember that the vacuum wipers always had problems when the engine vacuum lowered (like driving up a hill) so don't expect too much even when the wiper motor's in optimal condition
  • To soften the leather one can use mmo in there . An half ounce should do the trick .

The one on my 50 Pacemaker does not function well when the housing is cold, but once the wiper motor gets warm from the heat of the engine it works great.

As Jon B said he will tell you if its warped. This is a VERY common thing in the older units, as he told me. He was able to tell me over the phone with it in my hand that it wasnt rebuildable.
He did have one for my 36 that was ready to go. I received it and put it in and it works great. (cept for the above mentioned low vacuum issues!)

Do what Geoff recommends in the latest White Triangle News - replace it with a generic electric wiper motor.
It's just not worth the effort of trying to revive a vacuum wiper.
Even if you succeed, the performance will be under-whelming - there was a good reason that electric wipers superseded them.

Thank you all for replies, Mine do work but are very slow. I had it out a couple years back and used 3 in one oil. It worked good for a while but now needs service. I can't put electric motor in as I don't believe it will fit due to the weather master unit.  I will reach out to Rob @ Fickens wiper service.  But first I will try some MMO and service it. Thanks all!
  • @Val I did it in my 53 6 months ago (marvel) and no problem yet, but as mentioned above they are vacuum wipers so there are the normal bits of weak and slow speed stuff.
Also make sure if the mechanism is put together that the flap is vertical so it’s able to soak up the oil
    Good luck!

A combination vacuum / fuel pump helps , a vacuum storage tank helps a lot.

yes, I plan to make a vacuum storage tank. Tried to service by pulling the vacuum line from the intake manifold but no dice. Most of the oil wound up in the floor. Good thing its a rubber mat. I'll take the radio out to get the wiper motor out and service that way and put a vacuum pump on it to see if it leaks. Any ideas where I may find a rebuild kit?
