Hi, sorry if this is the wrong forum (I'm posting this in several) but there's an online auction of Hudson cars and parts that I feel the club should be aware of. The physical location is near Lincoln, NE. I am not associated with this in any way, but feel that the club should be aware!

I could use a couple of the rear fenders shown. Is there anyone in this area, that are willing to pick-up and ship (Greyhound, Third Party Logistics (Fastenal), etc..)?
Auction location is:

Rick,
Send a message out to the Nebraska-Iowa Chapter to see if someone in the chapter could give you some help with shipping the parts. Brent Nickol is the Chapter President, back page of the WTN. Brent lives about 45 minutes away but don't know if he is able to give you an assist, he also knew Jay.

I contacted the auction house. They only 'ship' the smaller items, however they offered to 'drop off' larger items to a 'shipper of my choice' (in Lincoln, NE) for a small fee ($20, in the case of a couple of fenders - very reasonable). I have a shipper in mind that I have used in the past, and they are actually in the area - so.. Just waiting for the shipper to get back to me with a quote for the transport (a bit over 1,200 miles).
Will update this post/thread, once I get the quote in..
Also, for what it's worth - In checking background information on this auction, I see that even with as many Hudson vehicles, parts, etc., as they have, the owner does not appear to be or ever have been a member of the HET Club(?), at least not according the the club website..0 -
Rick,
From a current club member...
He was a member of our chapter many years ago...before my time. One of our members repeatedly made fun of his cars. It upset Jay so much that he quit. Over the years I tried to get him to come back, but he always asked whether that guy was still a member and when I said yes, Jay said no!0 -
A number of years ago George Schmidt (long since deceased) was one of the most knowledgable guys in the club about Drivemaster/Supermatic, plus a lot of other stuff. He also wrote a column back in the mid-90s in the WTN. I believe he was a Hudson-trained mechanic. I sent him a letter about getting my Supermatic working. He dutifully typed, not with a computer, but typed on a typewriter a response I still have and plan to use one of these days when I decide to get the darn thing working. Anyway, he drove his Hudson to meets and some folks made fun of his car at a regional meet and he never came attended another one from what I was told. One of my attractions initially to the HET was the fact that you drove what you had and no judging. It is unfortunate that some would make others feel bad about their cars. You never know what we lost by George not continuing to particpate!0

As I said, I went to the HET Club website, searched for current, past, and even limited memberships - NADA, nothing. As has been said - a database is only as accurate as it's data/input, so..
I don't doubt that he was a member at one point - and got soured by a few of our 'judgey' HET Club members..0 -
To be fair, this isn't isolated to HET. I used to be in a club for a different make/model and I refused to ever put my vehicles in their registry because the registrar was a supremely judgemental #$@%... Their local chapter was the same way until they shut it down due to lack of interest by new members. By the time it collapsed they hadn't garnered new members in years.

We should all do whatever we can to keep these cars front and center and keep new members coming in. I can tell you that the Kaiser Frazer club and Nash clubs both are on life support, as their members are not getting replaced as the older ones die off. I am pleased to be in the Studebaker and HET clubs as we have a great following and club members (well for the most part), not all makes are in the same position.0

We who drove Hudsons everyday “found” the HET club via word of mouth. My cars like my Dads before me were the worn out examples sitting in the back of the used car lots. As these cars disappeared I sought the odd back yard or barn finds. Most were cheap many rusty and on their last legs... but what I could afford. The picture is what the club members saw... some scoffed parts cars others welcome. But inside the club the group that wanted exact restoration harped that the every day drivers should not be displayed with the rest of the cars. This ran off my back because then my occupation was the military. I once asked another military Hudson owner about this matter. He said that the transfers allowed him to “put-up” with these types. For me I have put my eggs in the basket that includes everyone. My website is a reaction to the those who keep. Stuff to themselves or chastise others for the appearance of their car. George Schmidt suffered the highest indignity... someone set fire to his Hudson! Do we have this situation still... Yes! Too bad and shame on the Bullies! The HET club is dying out because of this and other things. I recently paid for the National membership for a man who is resto modifying a junkyard Stepdown he’d dug out of the mud. But he like the other potential new members was put off by the... that’s not a Hudson bullies. I hope his family and he will enjoy those who welcome enough to renew. Fifty year member HET Club0

I'm closing this thread down now (and that is not bullying...).
It was put here to let people know of an auction and it has , once again, turned into a moan about a small minority of people.
Moan at me as much as you like but this discussion is now closed0
