Rear crankcase vent

I'm working on a '33 Terraplane 8. There is hole in the rear of the block at the top of the crankcase. Is there something that goes in this hole? (My challenge is the car was a basket case so i don't have a road map of what went where.)

look at front of trans bellhousing, on pass side of it as installed on car.

 my 32 T has a recessed  channel in the front of trans on passanger side, to act as an internal road draft tube. There are even some little cast in place items to trap oil.

The hole in block, indexes with top of trans channel.
