Wondering about retrofitting my 1951 Commodore 4 Door with a passenger side mirror. Has anyone found a setup that is as functional as a modern day one?

Nope, mine is useless and only there for looks. I plan to remove and fill the holes. I don't particularly care for the "modern" style anyway and prefer the clamp on style - https://www.ebay.com/itm/266096628332?hash=item3df498526c:g:9rwAAOSwPdljzSdn:sc:Other!19711!US!-1&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA0F14CAsfd1fb2Qm%2FxQqY7WWziqlD%2BAyX0TDiAzxCURK5Y7%2BzxLgeveewPgXtSnA1HzDbLSnUqrGQyVTjez5HZIQ0kyL3Oq3llPEmzGr1ayT0yEN7O5WOyOvJFDsj5W10uEYG8xZQGPtZjYb4VblwKqt7kmAWnkBav%2F5NmkwhoR76Hh4WSQs0FtvA1ko%2B2YYKLw4Oy92UqbppXQpg%2FAZxERuGvNQmxH0PVEKNAY4AdG21bUdRFc4etE8%2Bbz9z8c3to4XSYTZYaBXEb1%2BmdDqkqc0%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR-L23tH3YQ
Sadly, all of these are made in China anymore, just like everything else.0 -
I have the clamp on mounted to my 49. Not any better than the bolt on style in my opinion

Sorry that was not clear - the clamp on for driver's side. I have no solution for the passenger's side.0

I put the clamp on style on the passenger side of my 49, but had to attach a small convex mirror to it in order to see cars in my blind spot.0

I haven't used these, but when I have the available scratch I'd like too...

Hopefully that link works...
I think the right diameter round head and the Wing Arms would look right. Maybe even the Muscle Car arm wouldn't be too out of place.0 -
these are very useful comments. I will have to drive in city traffic on multi-lane streets and a decent view of the road is critical. I'm wondering about whether a fixed-mount mirror will work or if I need an adjustable one with a ball-bearing. I see what you mean, GrimGreaser, about those pricey but stylish Hagen mirrors. And about what are the dimensions of your clamp-on mirror with convex spot, Jason NC?0

Attached are pics of the passenger mirrors on both my Hudsons. One is clamped on while the other is attached to the door. Both cars have the direction arrows that light up when the signal is engaged. The convex mirror is the same for both and the main mirrors are 3 inches in diameter.0
