Essex rear spring shackle mounts

I have a 29 Essex with badly twisted left rear hanger. I had a 28 with the same problem and have seen others with the same problem. Obviously a weak spot in the frame and suspension. Wonder if the casting is maleable and can be straightened with heat. Any one else had this problem?

Can actually be straightened cold.  This is not a "weakness" but usually caused by backing into a solid object.  I had the same thing with a '29 Hudson.  Used a Porta-power hydraulic wedged to the chassis to bring it back. However, this was bare chassis, so much easier that way.
