wiring question

The brake lights on my 39 Six work but when I have the lights on you can't tell when I apply the brake pedal. I turn the lights out and apply brake pedal and I can see they work. But I noticed the passenger side comes on a second after the driver side does. What would cause that?

Bad ground. Run a wire from the bulb holder to the chassis
