46 super six door key lock location

Just curious if anyone knows the urban legends of why the key to unlock the car is on the passenger side, along with the slide switch for the dome light?

The lock on the passenger side only was to prevent drivers from getting hit by passing cars as they locked or unlocked their diver side door. This was for 1946 only. By 1947 both sides had outside door locks following complaints.This is one of the ways of telling if the car is a 46 or 47 Hudson.
