Where to connect wire?
My 1954 Hornet Coupe had smoke coming from steering column. Discovered a loose brake wire. The circuit braker kept tripping Any ideas where I need to connect it on the junction block?
TIA,
John

John, check your email, I have new switches for the 54's and the 53-54 Jets. Kenneth

Somebody routed the wires incorrectly and they were chewed up by the moving parts of the switch, thus the power from brake light switch or flasher relay shorted out. Here is how the wires should be routed as viewed from the back side (forward facing when installed on steering column).

Put the new switch on the plate assembly. The biggest pain in the @$$ is the little conical spring and its horseshoe shaped cupped retainer. Getting it off is easier than putting it back on, if the spring doesn't fly off into God knows where. Putting it back on with your fingers is damn near impossible. Spring shot off 4 times..... broke a fingernail, spent over an hour cleaning the desk off to search for the spring, crawling on all fours, etc. Found the damned spring each time........I finally got smarter......cut a slot in the hole end of an old feeler gauge, bent it at an angle and used that to hold the damned spring down while using a pair of nose hair tweezers to position the horseshoe retainer onto the groove on the 3/16" pin, then used needle nose pliers to snap the retainer fully on the pin groove.
