55-56 Hudson drivetrain

Recently found out that the 51 Hudson Hornet I have has a 55 or 56 .308 in it with a double lever overdrive transmission. I’m thinking of potentially switching to an earlier model engine since it seems some internal parts may be hard to find. Would the double lever overdrive transmission work with the earlier models? I understand they were first introduced around 1952

    Rebuild what you have. It is likely just a replacement block with the early crankshaft, so it works with the trans you have.

    Your 51 will take a double lever setup very easily. Since it's a 3 speed you won't even have to switch the cross member. May have to modify the drive shaft .
