Need help...overdrive electric connection in overdrive cable is causing troubl...how can I bypass it

I see that there is an electric connection on the overdrive cable just under the dash
It does not allow the overdrive to engage if it’s not just right.
My overdrive is engaged with a toggle switch bypassing the governor, the kick down switch and the relay
How can I bypass the cable electrical connection? I’m thinking just cut the wires and connect them together
Help! On a road trip!
