Looking for window regulator install tips

Hi all,

Well, I am finally getting the replacement glass and window channels installed in my 36T.

Got the driver door done no problem. Now I am struggling with the back door regulator..its been a while since it was apart, and I can't figure out the combination to get it back in! The channel and glass are in, so I am hoping someone has done it or knows the 'magic' combination to get it back together. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hudsonly,

Jeff

Congrats! Did you end up partially installing the regulator BEFORE inserting the window into the channel? That's what I've learned after many trials and tribulation on 50s Hudsons i.e. as a minimum the regulator's handle shaft must be protruding out of the hole in the inner panel. However three of the four screws that secure the reg's housing to the panel are left off thereby allowing the reg to rotate and pivot up/down around the axis of the one screw.  The degree of freedom afforded by this one screw pivot point facilitates aligning and inserting the forward and rear arm buttons into the window's base runner. Insert the buttons into the runner with the window in a lowered position, then push the window fully upwards. Once the window is fully up the 3 screw holes of the reg housing magically align with the inner panel holes. Insert screws, done. Advice: Be sure to wear a long sleeved old shirt and gloves or face your dog's eagerness to lick hand and arm wounds for a week...

    Hey StepUp,

No, actually after the window was in (which has to be put in with the window channel loose on one side) it gets lowered all the way. Then the regulator arm buttons get fitted into the channel with the regulator outside the door. Then lift the window and adjust the regulator up to slip the rest of the regulator into the door. Then adjust the regulator a bit more and it will slide inside tilted enough to get the handle shaft up and through the hole. Due to the shape of the rear doors in relation to the rear fenders the regulator cant be fit into the door due to lack of space to adjust it.

Hope that makes sense! And yes, long sleeves are a must...

    Thanks,

    Jeff
