Distributor Rotor Play

I noticed that on my replacement rotor on my 53 Super Wasp is loose and can be rotated maybe 5 degrees in either direction. Is there a clip that the distributor is missing or does this not make a difference once the distributor in rotating. I see that the 6-cylinder mustangs from the 60's and Ford 8N tractors used a distributor spring clip. Did Hudson use anything like this?

or should the rotor have a clip in it like this?

I was able to resolve the rotor problem I was having. Apparently the AL152 rotor the parts stores are selling doesn't crossover and fit like the AL112 rotor. I was able to locate an nos AL112 that has the metal clip in it and it has no play in it.
