Headliner option for Stepdowns - ?Eliminate bows?
I initially posted this as an add-on to a previous headliner discussion, but I think the question may have gone unseen, lost due to the different subject title....
I was wondering if anyone has removed their stock headliners and just applied reflective and foam insulation (say 3/8 to 1/2") directly to the inside roof, and THEN applied a sticky-back headliner material directly to the insulation and to the roof -- bypassing the stock headliner bows and its complications?
Would also give lotsa extra headroom, be great sound and heat insulation, and I THINK would be a lot easier to install (based on comments about how difficult it is to replace the stock headliner)(I have seen recs to have a professional install it).
So, add on price-wise it's bound to be a quantum cheaper also.
Example of self-adhesive headliner material from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DFMKFZPV/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_6?smid=A1W6KIIK4ENDNF&th=1
Thanks for feedback, especially if based in some measure on personal experience.

I used a thin adhesive foam heat and sound deadener and then went the traditional bows route with a pro. It looks great. Never tried the adhesive headliner but I know you can apply that insulation above it, in case you were curious.

Sounds like you would end up with a really ugly mess.

Glue and hot metal don’t usually do to hot (mind the joke) .
what’s the issue with traditional bows?
Im a clockmaker by trade , can’t cut corners in my world . As my colleagues would say , save up a few coins and do it right .
