1953 Hudson Hornet Tie Rod Ends

I need the correct tie rod ends for my car. I looked up the ends online and 'Rare Parts' came up with Part No. RP25246 (Location: Front left outer, front right inner} $51.67.

Also, Part No. RP26311 (location: Front Left inner) $31.62.

I know I need 2 left hand threads and 2 right hand threads to make the tie rods work. Are these the correct tie rod ends for my car? And are there other places I can get the tie rod ends for my car?

Thanks for your help, Vic

  • Hey there Vic! I just did my outer tie rods on my '53 Hornet a couple years ago. I also searched through this forum for the right part but forgot to post my findings. Above you can see my original tie rod end, a Moog substitute, and a Napa substitute.

I came across the Rare Parts number that you did and since they're kinda pricey and harder for me to get, I did a little shopping around. There are two other part numbers which link up to the same measurements and fitment: the Moog ES416L (and R for right) and the Napa 269-2240 series.

I really liked the Moog when I got it. It was made in USA, sturdy, and came with a zirc grease fitting. The Napa didn't, so I sent it back. The Moog installed just fine and has had a couple thousand miles on it already, so it's definitely a good fit. Also the Moog can be shipped free from Home Depot for about $20, or at least it was when I last looked.

Hopefully this helps with the outers. I honest can't remember for certain, but I believe the inners are the same.

  • There are several listings for Hudson Stepdown parts interchanges on my website.

  • Hi atc,

I appreciate your help finding the tie rod ends. Yeah, I found some others which were way more expensive than the Moog. Amazon has the Moog ES416R FOR $15.38 and the ES416L for $32.57. Those are great prices!!

    Hi Glowplug,

The Moog tie rod ends are the same number in the listing... Thank you as well!!

I had no idea they were also used for Fords.

Ounce again, I am so grateful for the Hudson Open Forum... and especially the help you both have given me!!
