Jet Heat Riser
The lever is in the down position currently. Does that mean that the heat riser is open or closed? Also, it appears that there should be a spring connected to the lever to move it. Where does the spring attach to the lever? I sense that it goes in the tiny hole at the end of the lever. Should it be open of closed when the car is running?

John, unless you’re planning on winter driving eliminate the heat riser. Make a block off plate for the front and just put a bolt and nut to block the back hole. I’ve done this on a Jet, and on both of my Hudson 8’s. In both cases the manifolds were cracked from stuck heat riser’s
