Splasher 6 Valve Identification

Can someone please tell me what is the order of the engine valves, (intake, exhaust, etc) from front to rear on a 1940 Hudson 6? I want to adjust them, and remember from rebuilding the engine that they do not go in order. Right now they are adjusted at 12 thousandts, and I want to re-adjust, with the intakes at about 10. Thanks, Paul.

Exhausts are 1,3,6,7,10,12, adjust hot to .008

    1 revolution valve adjustment sequence

    1 & 4 up, adjust 9 & 12

    8 & 10 up, adjust 3 & 5

    2 & 6 up, adjust 7 & 11

    9 & 12 up, adjust 1 & 4

    3 & 5 up, adjust 8 & 10

    7 & 11 up, adjust 2 & 6

  • Another way of noting valves is E I E I I E E I I E I E. Easiest way to adjust valves (is that an oxymoron?) is to take plugs out and tighten the fan belt so you can turn the engine with the fan blades. Start with whichever two valves are open, and adjust the opposite number. As Josh has noted there will be two valves up at anyone time, alternatively at the front or back half of the valve chamber. Adjust the two opposites, and then turn the motor 1/6 of a turn until the next pair of valves are up. By the time you have turned the motor over on complete turn you will have done them all. Good luck,

    Geoff.
