Help

Hello, I've been reading this form for some time and see that there is some good info from some knowledgeable people so I signed up. I'm building a 54 308 7X and the one piece of information I can't find I hope someone out there has. My machine shop is interested in doing the work and doing it right. I have all the specs he needs except two. Can anyone tell me the specs on the Mains, meaning the the correct measured size without bearings and the plus/minus tolerances and the same for the journal end of the rods. I appreciate any help and maybe in the future I can be of some help. I have 10 Hudsons all needing restoration. Thanks

Someone should be along in a couple of minutes to answer your question, but I note you're from Idaho...were you aware that there are some folks in Weiser, Idaho with an enormous stock of Hudson parts purchased from an old Hudson dealer? They're Gene and Myrna Eshelman. Also (shameless commercial pitch here) are you aware of the Hudson club? If not, their website is at http://www.hudsonclub.org/

  • Thank you very much for the info. I'll take it to him tomorrow to see if this will complete his needs.. I appreciate the help. Doug
  • I do know them but haven't seen them for a few years. Wasn't aware they had a supply of parts and will check with them to see what they have. Thanks for the info. Doug
  • I'm chiming in on this kinda late, but the specifed bore diameters of the mains. Meaning the block bore diameters without the bearings.

    2.692"-2.691"

I'm assuming this is for an align boring/honing job.

While we're at it, here is the rod bore diameters - I like to have never found this spec when resizing the big end of my rods.

    2.2505"-2.2500"

  • Mark, Thanks a lot, this is exactly what I was looking for, appreciate the info

  • Did the cars that were originally equipped with 7x's have dual exhausts?
  • Dave, I don't know. I've had the car for 32 years, out in my barn, waiting to get to it. When I started working on it I found that it had a 262 head and was worried it wasn't a 308, but it was. Has the Hudson split Exhaust Man. that adapts back into a single exhaust. That was factory on this car. Has a mix of stuff and looks as though it was all stock.

Could you post a picture of this manifold and the exhaust pipe? I'm really curious to know what it looks like. Thanks.

I've just found a passage in one of my Hudson books that says that dual exhaust manifold and pipe kit become available for all models as of January, 1953. The cost was $50.00. Hudson also offered suspension and rear axle upgrades and larger fuel tank as well as various heads carb set-ups, cams and a heavy duty radiator. The 7X option (short block) was supposed to be supplied to and installed by dealers for $385.00.
  • dwardo99, I've tried to post these pictures every why I can think of. It says that just one picture is to big to post? I don't know if it really is or if I'm doing something wrong. I tried to send you a message but that didn't work either. I'm sure it's my limited computer skills. I would be happy to e mail the pictures to you direct if you would like, I think I can do that given enough time! I'm new to this site and haven't got the nuts and bolts other than cross threaded!
