1951 Hornet Coupe Value

Congrats on your sale. Sadly, you are now Hudsonless. The value of a restored car or driver can vary depending on the model, condition, location, etc. IMHO, and given what you car has sold for, a Hornet driver could go for 8-10k with a restored car easily bringing 15k-25k.0

Hi Dave... I think your way low on the driver values. I've been actively buying Hornet coupes for two years now and I have four of them. There are no Hornet coupe drivers out there forsale. Only really nice ones or rough ones. IMHO a driver is 15K min if you do find one. Then they go up from there to 30K or even more. I had my blue 51 Hornet coupe on e-bay a couple of months ago (a nice driver) and turned down 21K. Been offered 23k at the Western regional and turned it down. Values are going up, up, up. Availability is going down, down , down.0 -
BadHudson,
After restoring a rusty 51 Coupe, I would say that any Hudson(especially a uni-body) frame that is rust free and straight, with a dent free body and all the stainless trim and the chrome and pot metal is good enough to send off and get re-chromed, is well worth $4500. If your going to do a top notch restoration, that is money well spent. The finished product is going to look better and be worth more. Things like engines, interior, glass, etc, will cost the same, but a nice body and frame, Priceless.
Having said that, every Hudson I have bought has been beat-up and rusty. Just wouldn't be the same starting with a good foundation. Heck, what's the fun in that! I love to slam the doors and look under the car and see what fell off.0 -

If that is indeed the case, I'm happy. On one hand, we should be happy are cars are appreciating. On the other hand, that means are buying power is dwindling. At any rate, I've seen a few crusty coupes crawling around under their own power in the 8-10k range that could be considered drivers. That is until they blow-up, catch fire or turn into iron oxide.

Prices are going to the point that getting a return on investment is pretty much out the door for coupes and 4doors. Say I bought that coupe for $4500 then spent $5000 on chrome, $3500 on upholstrey, 5000 on engine $2000 on rubber and front end parts, wiring harness $1100, paint $ 5000, carpet, headliner, gas tank renu, glass, nuts/bolts misc ~$2000 New hydro or manual trans work $500-$850. That is just parts labor could be free or another $5000++ for assembly. I would assume farming out paint/uphol0

I was just curious, I see some bring next to nothing and some bring a lot. Must just be the rust issue and coupe and sedan. The 51 Coupes are my favorites of the stepdowns, but I still love my 46-47s more even though people hate the front end. The guy is coming to get it on Wednesday, it will be a sad moment for sure. On the bright side maybe maybe I will buy one in the future fully restored.
thanks for info

Russmaas,
Your right, don't ever put a pencil to your hobbies, or let the Mrs. see the receipts. But if I did the math right on your example, it comes out to $34,000. Now you have a beautiful car that you can drive for years without having to do anything major to, and in 10-15 years it will most likely be worth $50,000. Not a great investment, but not bad.0
